History

In the 1970's, there was a high need for campus & community support groups for Latinx students pursuing higher education. Latina women were pushing boundaries to access & participate in education, personal & professional development opportunities, & community activism.

17 women at Kean University came together to establish a support system. By integrating this group into the campus community, they paved the way and created a voice for Latinx students, and more importantly, the Universal Woman. In December of 1975, Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. became the first Latina sorority in the nation, and it is all thanks to our 17 lovely Founding Mothers.
